University Residencies & Faculty Training

”I have presented at and conducted workshops at hundreds of colleges and universities all over the world over the past 18 years.  In every place there is always the question of “how can I do this or learn this to offer it to my students.”  When people find out that it traditionally takes 3 years and traveling to a training program to offer that, they are discouraged and abandon the idea.  Well, I’m pleased to be able to offer continuing education and faculty enrichment possibilities to college and university music departments in a supportive, mindful format that fits into the schedule of a full-time music professor.”

mBODYed can offer on-site training cohorts and faculty retreat opportunities that provide exposure to Somatic teachings.  We can even create pathways to certification for the individuals or the department.

Each department is unique and thus, each mBODYed program is constructed for you, to meet the needs of your department and whose within.  Please contact me immediately to set up your proposal so we can begin to imagine the possibilities.

How Can We Work Together?

  • On-site Training and Continuing Education

For your faculty interested in training to teach the Alexander Technique and/or Body Mapping, mBODYed will be on-site to work directly with your faculty as they teach the material in the classroom or studio.

My work with Shawn this past year was transformational. My ability to spot the connection between my students’ playing and the dynamics of their movements gave me an entirely new teaching tool box. Over and over again, I come back to Shawn’s idea of focusing on learning organic movements rather than learning correct notes. This concept helps my students internalize piano music in a more intuitive, fluid way. ”

  • Faculty Instruction

All faculty participating in Becoming mBODYed training receive 1:1 private instruction. These are online and in-person when mBODYed is on-site.

Shawn changed the way I think about my vibrato mechanics on the violin. I struggled for years with bicep tendon pain in my left arm, but Shawn’s guidance led me to discover something I’d never heard from a violin teacher before and I continue to pass this along to my students.

  • Student Instruction

During the on-site visits, mBODYed will present lectures, general and topic-driven workshops, performance coaching, master classes, and private lessons to the student body.

In addition to the subjects of Alexander Techniqe and Body Mapping, Dr. Copeland can speak about career development, entrepreneurship, wellness in the arts, injury prevention and recovery, performance anxiety, and pedagogy.

Dr. Copeland brings nuance to every element of his teachings and performance. Having attended several of his recitals, masterclasses, and private lessons, I believe him to be a well-rounded pedagogue, constantly seeking to encourage self-awareness in his audience.
